Spiritual Awakening: What Legacy Are You Creating?

It has been 12 days since I attended The Women Of Faith Event in Sunrise, FL. I was only able to take part in The Friday Night portion of the event as I was booked to announce The Sean Taylor Classic, which crowned champions in Pop Warner Football.  I was their that evening to promote and share www.addictsmom.com, an online community helping mothers of addicts to share without shame while facing the challenges of having an addicted child. In the last 12 days I began to think about and answer the question What Legacy Are You Creating?

As I sat in reflection today taking an inventory of my service to the community in an effort to serve as a livining example that service to humanity is the best work of life I began to realize that the journey I have been put on by source is creating a legacy of hope and healing for those I come in contact with. At age 11 I ran my first ever special event, a backyard carnival for The Muscular Dystrophy Association. I was very involved with MDA for years as I would volunteer as for The MDA Telethin, raise funds, and serve as an MDA Camp Counselor. All through out high school I was the go to person for community service participating in March of Dimes Walks, Blood Drives, Food Drives, and other service organizations. Through out my college days at Hofstra, where I earned a BBA in marketing in 1987 I was known as Superfan for the work I did to support the athletic programs. I served as The Concessions Chairman of The Booster Club, wrote a column for The Chronicle, worked on The Program Board and The Concert Board. I was involved in many activities and became the go to person when it came to getting items donated. After college I joined The Jaycees and helped many charities. I was responsible for helping to feed over 300 needy families and taking over 1000 children on a Holiday Shopping Spree in an 18 year period of time. From July of 2002-February 2003 I was a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in The Philippines teaching English, Math, and Livlihood Skills to at risk yout at a Regional Rehabilitation Center For Youth. Upon my return I got involved with The American Cancer Society and started to particpate in The Relay For Life Program. I have garnered many awards for my service, however I always say the wood rots the meta tarnishes but the legacy of service lasts.  I finally realized after reflection that my calling is to be an action taker and to help other people excel. While others were accumulating wealth I was helping others giving of myself discovering things that money can not buy like the memory of walking up a moutain side in The Philippines  and looking over a city from a new perspective and realizing at that moment that it is not about the car you drive, the clothes you wear, or the money you have but the imapct you make and the legacy you leave.

This is my adopted country and each time I hear this song I begin to realize that my service in The Philippines as part of The U.S. Peace Corps meant something. I believe I received more from the experience then I gave. By being an action take and awakening to my calling I begin to understand the importance of creating a legacy that says I impacted lives in a positive way.

Spiritual Awakening: Ways To Create A Positive Legacy

I was interviewed on a Myra Goldnick’s Radio Show, Never Say Impossible, recently and I discussed ways to leave a legacy and the first thing we discussed was the concept of being of service and value.

There are many ways to be of service and value. You can donate your time to a charitable cause, you can make a donation to a cause like the one at http://main.acsevents.org/goto/jdogglederman. You can introduce yourself to someone who can benefit from your expertise simply by listening and picking up on what they may need. Sometimes it is just a simple act of random kindness. As you create your legacy remember to find ways to be of service and value.

To create a positive legacy it is important to use your talents for good creatin g joy in yourself and thus shining that joyful light on others.

Using the teachings of Don Miguel Ruiz and other personal development teachers can help you to create a legacy of positivity.

There are many tools available to help create the positive legacy. Books, music, quotes, affirmation, meditation, stone healing, chakra cleansing, EFT, Reiki and more can help you to find your true self so that you can continue on the path of creating a legacy of healing.
