Spiritual Awakening: Overcoming Fear
As I watched the movie Coach Carter and heard him ask what is your deepest fear I began to think, what is it that is holding you back from maximizing your mission? I then thought of the following Marianne Williamson “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
I have had the opportunity to meet many people who have put the fear they had aside annd decided to go for it. One individual that I met recently and applaud and celebrate is Anissa Pfannenstiel who is doing amazing work in the community.
About Anissa Pfannenstiel, LCSW
Anissa Pfannenstiel, LCSW obtained her Minority Studies Degree in 1998 from WSU and her Clinical Social Work degree from Newman University in 2001. Prior to her schooling, she was drawn to learning about the mind and altered states of consciousness and learning about the deep healing process that can be obtained using hypnotherapy and became a certified Hypnotherapist in 1999. Since that time, Anissa has worked in a variety of settings from Emergency Mental Health Services, in schools with adolescents and in partial hospitalization programs.
Over the years, becoming more versed in transpersonal psychology (integrating spirituality into therapy) and Eastern healing modalities, Anissa began to shift the way she viewed the traditional approach of diagnosing and labeling patients. Thus, Anissa began to use a combination of Japanese Psychology, Solution Focused Therapy and using altered stated of consciousness to assist her clients in moving forward in their lives.
Anissa works with individuals who are ready to be a willing students of self-reflection, heightening awareness, and taking meaningful actions to enhance and change their lives. The concepts that are used are rooted in Buddhist philosophy but are in no way religious, they are practical and useful tools that work with all the emotions & situations that get us stuck in feeling badly (depression, anxiety, OCD, etc). The success of these modalities has been amazing, the combination of working on many levels of growth with practices that helps clients learn to move through their lives with all the ups and downs in a more aware state where you are no longer controlled by your emotions but allow them to be expressed in a way with loving kindness and understanding, as part of the human experience that can be learned from and be respected. The process of working with Anissa is one of guide/student & the benefits are lasting results that will enhance your ability to cope with all the ups & downs of life as well as letting go of limiting beliefs, poor habits & traumas rooted in the subconscious mind.

Spiritual Awakening: Overcoming Fear
How many times have you felt I am not good enough or I don’t deserve this or a tinge scared aboiut going out on a limb and following your passion? How many times has FEAR sabotaged what you really want to do? There are many ways to overcome fear:
1: Take that leap of faith and do it- I remember I was younger and on a trip with my peers to Circus World and I was scared of the roller coaster but I went for it the roller coaster went throught the loop and then backwards through the loop and when I got off I went back in line to do it again, each time it got easier. I didn’t realize it them but it was a metaphor for life that you have to move forward, go backward, reflect, and then do it again.
Life can be like a roller coaster, however you need to put fear aside and take the ride.
2: Surround yourself with encouraging and supportive people. I’ll never forget my first swim meet I was enetered in the 500 yard freestyle and it took me a while to complete the race, but when it was over I received a huge ovation. I kept training and getting better and my coaches and teammates kept encouraging me. By the time I was a Senior at Piper Hgh School I was one of the best on my team.
I am in the middle front row. Many lessons of overcoming fear were leraned through swimming.
3: Read books by inspirational authors. I read a very inspiring book by Dan Caro, The Gift of Fire that inspired me to look beyond my fears and limitations. I have had the honor of interviewing Dan on my radio show.
4: Listen to Inspirational Music. One of The Honorees for The Spiritual Entrepreneurs Visionary Awards is Amy Barbera, an International Inspirational Singer. Here is one of her songs that I hope will lift you up and help you to overcome your fears.
Paint a rainbow and overcome your fears and find your passion and happiness.
5: Mediate Daily- I have found that by using passges from the bible, books like The Minute Miracle by Mary Morrissey or Oneness Consciousness by Rev. Dr. Dee Adio- Moses and then closing my eyes and quieting my mind helps to put fears aside. Sometimes I will use the CD from Sonia Alexander to get me in a wuiet state of mind so I can just be. I found this video that may help you to mediate and overcome your fears.
Today relax and let go of fear and realize just how far you can go.
