Spiritual Awakening: The Dropped Pass!!!
One may ask what does football have to do with spiritual awakening? The answer is so simple as in football and in life a dropped pass can turn a game a round or turn a life around. I have watched many a football game and each game has that one moment that turns the momentum from one team to another and most likely it involves a dropped pass. As you trace your life back on your own personal gridiron how many passes can you say you caught and how many have you dropped. When you have dropped the pass have you found out why and made adjustments so the next time that pass is thrown your way way you can catch it. Each drive in football has a consequence. Every decision in life has a consequence as well. Sometimes that dropped pass in life is a blessing because you can run another route or a play and have a different outcome. The greatest victory is in overcoming the dropped pass.
I watched The Oregon Ducks take on The Ohio State Buckeyes for The National Championship on 1/12/2015. As I watched Marcus Mariota throw a pass on 3rd down that should have been caught I thought what a shift as Oregon punted and Ohio State marched down the field on a 97 yard touchdown drive to tie the game at 7. The ducks took the ensuing kickoff and were driving when again Mariota found a wide open receiver who unfortunately dropped the ball and forced Oregon to punt. Oregon punted and Ohio State again marched down the field to take a 14-7 lead. Oregon would be in scoring position but Ohio State would stop them. The teams would exchange points and the half would end with Ohio State up 21-10. Ohio State would be stopped and Oregon would kick a field goal then Oregon would capitalize with a 71 yard touch down pass to make the game 21-20 Ohio State. Ohio State would take over the game and go on to win The National Championship 42-20. I share this with you because like a football game our lives have a ebb an flow and if you drop too many passes you lose out. In life these passes are shown as opportunities given to us in spiritual code. If we take the proper action and have the proper game plan and execute all of our patterns we grow in mind, body, and soul. Look at the passes being thrown your way and if you are catching them or dropping them.
After Ohio State was awarded The National Championship Trophy many of the analyst started to talk about the dropped pass and what may have been. I began to think how many times do we ask ourselves what if when in reality we do not know. We can not play the result in football and we should not play the result in life. When we begin to tear back the onion and see some of our dropped passes all we can do in the spiritual awakening process is to find out why and make our adjustments accordingly. We can look at what we have done and why we caught a pass and what we did to drop a pass. Did we learn from the dropped pass so that the next time we are thrown that spiritual pass we can catch it?
Cardale Jones completed many passes and came back after fumbling the ball that lead to Oregon cutting the lead to 21-20. LIke this football game Cardale’s life was fraught with challenges but when he made a decision to change his life things improved. Cardale was a 3rd string quarterback at the beginning of the season but when given the chance he caught his pass and led The Ohio State Buckeyes to a National Championship Cardale taught us that regardless of where we are placed when that spiritual pass is thrown it is important to catch it. He also teaches us when we drop that spiritual pass to shake it off and learn from it and to move forward towards the victory that we will experience.
Though Marcus Mariota may have thrown some passes that were dropped and his team did not win he carried himself with class and dignity and showed the world that being humble can have its rewards. Marcus most likely will be playing in The NFL next year and he will have his fair share of dropped passes but I am certain he will take them in stride and succeed.
The next time you are thrown a pass catch it and see how your catch will inspire others. Stay Positive!!!
