Spiritual Awakening: Promoting Your Message
I am often asked how do I promote my message so as to build my brand as a spiritual entrepreneur and monetize the work that I do. The answer I give is to follow these steps to maximize your message:
1: Outreach- make a list of people that you are going to contact and determine what you are going to present and how you are going to present it. A great example of this is when I worked for The New York Liberties of Major League Volleyball as a PR Intern. I formulated a list of media contacts and one of the names on the list was Peter Axhelm, a well known sports writer and journalist, I called introduced myself and asked for him to come to a game. he was unable to attend however he sent a reporter and our game was covered in Newsday. The lesson here is do not be afraid to reach out.
2: Use R.E. R. – Make your story relevant, Entertaining, and Resonating. A great example of this is the work I did with The Addict’s Mom as her story was relevant as addiction is a big issue in our society, we were able to frame what she was doing in an entertaining way and it resonated with those we sent a release. As a result her media coverage has been tremendous. www.addictsmomgroup.com
3: Be of Service and Value- What are you bringing to the table? How can you enhance the electronic, print, and social media outkets taht you are promoting to. An example of this is when I was interviewed about my U.S. Peace Corps Service by The Coral Springs Forum. I told everyone I knew about the article that was coming out and I had the article framed to display on my wall. As a result the readership for that week was increased due to the publicity I did.
4: Be Open to Receive- Sharing information and taking guidance will increase your opportunity to increase your media coverage. An example of this occurred when I was looking for promotion for the following event and it was suggested that I make a blog about it. As you can see I did just that and this blog was born.

Spiritual Awakening: Promotional Opportunities
One great way to promote yourself and to build your business is to be of service to others. Finding events or organizations to align yourself with can lead to more clients and a stronger brand. In my 30 years of community service I have witnessed the concept of reciprocity as I have attended many events and at each event I made it a point to have my business cards or promotional fliers to give out as you neve know where business may come from. For Example I was emceeing a Relay for Life Event and someone asked it I did parties, I said yes if you supply the equipment. I was booked to do a paid gig simply by being of service.
Another way to promote yourself is to be in the moment and to be centered. For example you are in your local Dunkin Donuts you overhear a conversation that relates to what you do so you casully walk over and apologize for interrupting and hand them a business card or if you have your product with you a CD, A Book, or a sample you give it to them. Recently I was out and about and I had the magazine I represent with me and I heard a mom say what are we going to do next, I turned handed her the magazine and stated you might find some things to do in this magazine. She thanked me. This may lead to future business as she will tell her associates about the nice encounter she had with the guy from Life Publications.
This week as you go about your business remember that the more you promote the stronger your business will become.
