Spiritual Awakening: Stuart Scott Leaves a Spiritual Lesson!!!

As most of you who read this blog on a regular basis know I am a broadcaster and an avid sports enthusiast. One of my favorites was Stuart Scott who on January 4, 2015 was called home to GOD after battling cancer for the 3rd time. His speech at The 2014 ESPY Awards after receiving The Jim Valvano Perseverance Award was captivating and inspiring. How Stuart Scott battled with grace and dignity teaches us many spiritual lessons. Stuart’s love for his family and those he worked with and came in contact with taught is all that love is a great power to share. Stuart was authentic and this came across in all he did. I remember writing him an invite to come to The Relay For Life and receiving a gracious reply that he was unable to attend. Stuart taught the world to live life to the fullest and if you are over the top you may just impact lives in a positive manner. As I reflected on the life and times of Stuart Scott I realized that he had an amazing way of connecting with people. Though I never met Stuart Scott I feel like he was part of my life as I studied him and have emulated his professionalism. Stuart taught us to take action and to go after our dreams while being our authentic self. As we honor Stuart let us look at those who have made a positive impact on our lives and honor them as well. Let us take the final words of his ESPY Speech and live life full out.

He showed us the importance of love, compassion, drive, and enthusiasm. He showed us all how important it is to always do your best. Stuart Scott was more than just an award winner and a broadcaster he was a man with conviction and compassion. If we could all be half as good as Stuart Scott was we can make our world a better place. Stuart Scott answered a calling and helped us all to come alive and reminded us all just how important it is to be of service and value. Far beyond the face on a TV Screen Stuart Scott was a man who will always be remembered for his impact not only in The Sports Broadcasting Industry but on our society. Stuart Scott ESPYs Speech Quote Stuart Scott took up MMA Fighting as a way to train and thus make the mind, body, soul connection. While many would have thrown in the towel Stuart gave cancer a big Booyah and now he has found the cool side of the pillow. Stuart Scott taught us to battle and to never give up. Today I realize that perhaps GOD needed him more in heaven than we needed him on earth. His legacy is one of strength, inspiration, dreams, and hope. Stuart’s commitment to helping other people excel was seen in all he did from mentoring young journalists to supporting aspiring broadcasters. Stuart Scott may be gone from this earth but he is not forgotten.

Spiritual Awakening: Pressing On!!!

As I drove to Starbucks today (5/23/14) I was listening to Reach FM and this song was playing on the radio. I started to think since my spiritual awakening how many times I have pressed on despite the trials and tribulations that have been presented in my life. I have been asked several times JDOGG how do you keep moving forward? My answer, I become an action taker and I press on. I have come to realize during the spiritual awakening process that there are some that will, some that won’t so I say so what as there are some waiting and move on to the next person. I have discovered that I will not resonate or have a vibrational mix with everyone and that not everyone will share my passion and enthusiasm for life. The key is to be committed to pressing on and moving in a positive direction of your goals and dreams. I have discovered that as long as I shine my light and give glory to GOD that I will be able to press on and find success.

In pressing on I have adopted this as an anthem to remind me to continue on my quest toward spiritual enlightenment. I have begun to ask myself everyone morning how I can be of service and value to others? I have made it a point to press on by being committed to make a difference in the lives of others and thus enhance my personal and professional life. In pressing on and never giving up I have been able to experience a myriad of successes. In taking action and getting involved in the community I have seen changes being made because of people coming alive and committing to press on and stay positive. In pressing on I have had dreams come true like announcing a championship football game or emceeing a large community event.

I was reflecting during the spiritual awakening process as I was working through releasing what a sixth grade teacher had told me 37 years ago that I wouldn’t amount to much. I shred the story how I overcame the diagnosis of a specific learning disability and the negatives associated with that diagnosis. I got my payback in 1988 when I was assigned to substitute teach at my old middle school. There I was in the teacher’s lounge when that teacher came in an I stood up and introduced myself and told her that I substituting teaching there and asked so how are you liking me know. This story reminds me that no one can hold you back but yourself and how important it is to overcome and press on.

Spiritual Awakening: Keep Pressing On!!!!

In life you are very lucky if you get an opportunity to do something you love and also get paid for it. I have been fortunate during my spiritual awakening to connect with The Miami Fury Women’s Tackle Football Team and their owner Gayla Harrington. Gayla exemplifies the idea of pressing on and never giving up. She has overcome much adversity in the years that she has owned The Miami Fury. Her dedication radiates a spiritual energy to all those she comes in contact with as she is always positive despite any challenges that may be going on in her personal and professional life. As I announced The Miami Fury Game today and witnessed them win the game 42-8 one theme kept reoccurring and that was keep pressing on.

Miami Fury Football The game began and their opponent, The Jacksonville Dixie Blues, looked like they would drive down the field and score then they suffered an intentional grounding penalty, then they snapped the ball over the punter and The Fury recovered at The Dixie Blues 11 yard line and the QB Jessica Childers scored on an 11 yard run to give The Fury a 6-0 lead. The 2 point conversion would fail. The Fury continued to press on and took a 22-0 lead. The Dixie Blues would return the kickoff for a TD and convert on a 2 point try making the score 22-8. The Fury would press on and play hard to eventually win 42-8. As I walked down from the press box I saw the players and coaches from both teams gathered at mid field in a prayer circle. As the game unfolded I would do shout outs for the cure and would learn about the passing of Michael Childers, Jessica Childers’ Uncle. I would summon up some strength to have everyone do a moment of remembrance. The game elicited many angles that are part of the spiritual awakening process. It had many moments of joy tinged with some sadness illustrating the balance in our lives. In life we will have joy and bliss but we will also experience sadness and despair. We will experience ups and downs. We will win and we will lose. The key is to understand that all that happens happens for us and contains a lesson to propel us along our spiritual journey so that we can have spiritual enlightenment.

Spiritual Awakening: Zig Ziglar Leaves Legacy of Inspiration

It was abou 10 AM on 11/28/12 when the news came across the wire that Zig Ziglar, The Great Motivator, made his transition at age 86. His lessons will live on for many years as they have been written and recorded and they will resonate as they make sense. Think about the first quote as it shows us that we can be great if we get started. The 2nd quote is so very true as the law of reciprocity is true. The idea of being motivated everyday is importnat as it propels us to success. As I reflected on Zig Ziglar’s teachings I began to think about the idea of being inspired and inspiring others.

On way to inspire others is to do good deeds. By helping others you begin to find yourself as you find a joy in the knowledge that your act of love and kindness enhanced someome’s life. One of the good deeds that I do each year is particpiate and emcee The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of West Boca Raton. I have asked in past entries what will your legacy be? Zig Ziglar’s legacy was one of hope and inspiration.

Self discovery is a great way to find your talents to use to be inspired and to inspire others. If you have a great smile share it and see what happens. It is when you begin to be your authentic self that you are able to enhance your life and then enhance others. Write down I am Great, I make a difference in my life and other’s lives, I give and receive, I shine a light wherever I go and begin to internalize these thoughts and watch your greatness come through.

As a new week begins and March Madness(NCAA Basketball Tournament) begins I am reminded of Jimmy Valvano and his speech at The ESPYS. Coach Valvano passed shortly after he received The Arthur Ashe Courage Award. He was the first recipient of the award and the folowing is the list of all the winners who share the common trait of never giving up:
